“Renew with Prayer” Mark 14: 32-36 Sunday August 28, 2016

Mark 14:32-36

32 They went to a place called Gethsemane; and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33  He took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be distressed and agitated. 34 And he said to them, “I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and keep awake.” 35 And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 He said, “Abba, Father, for you all things are possible; remove this cup from me; yet, not what I want, but what you want.”

Reach Out and Volunteer Opportunities :

You do not have to be a member of this church, this faith, or any faith to participate in any of our volunteer events.

https://docgeneralassembly.webconnex.com/weekofcompassion Looking to donate to Louisiana Flooding relief. As the worst flood since Superstorm Sandy forces thousands of residents from their homes in Southern Louisiana, Week of Compassion is offering support. Working with First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Baton Rouge, which has several families who have evacuated, we are providing solidarity and immediate relief. Through our partners at Children’s Disaster Services, we are providing safe space for children in the wake of the storm.

Stepping Forward

Our next Congregational commitment to the above service opportunity takes place at the end of this month.

We are in need of 7 or 8 more volunteers  who will join us in providing for 150+ deserving  members of our community.

Please advise me no later than Sunday, Aug 14 of your willingness to help.  A sign-up sheet is in the rear of the sanctuary or email ejvenn13@gmail.com .

You do not have to be a member of this church, this faith, or any religion to volunteer your time.
Thank you very MUCH,  Ed V.

Our Labor Day presenter will be Rev. Josh Baird. Josh is currently serving as Director at Disciples Volunteering and is not a stranger to Camp Christian. He has attended Chi Rho camp, CYF Conference, Advance Conference and also served on summer staff. We welcome Josh, his wife Rev. Laura Fitt-Baird, who is the minister of Medina Christian Church, and their 3 children.

For our service project, we will be collecting supplies to replenish the Camp Christian summer camp office. Please consider bringing computer paper, pens, pencils, scotch/masking tape, colored paper, white poster board, staplers and staples, small paint brushes, black sharpies, paper clips, or anything camp office supply related.

What a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of your every day life and enjoy the out-of doors! Spend a weekend with God and friends, both old and new, and go home feeling refreshed and relaxed. This is a great opportunity for you to come and experience camp, whether you have grown up here or are a first time camper. This retreat is also a great opportunity for younger children to see what camp is like when they are able to attend the Summer Camp Programs.

Hope to see you there!!

Keynote Speaker: REV. MARY ANNE GLOVER
Theme: “CHANGE — WHAT?????”

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19.

A retreat for women ready for change is awaiting you in the beautiful surroundings of Camp Christian. So take a step away from your regular routines and responsibilities and take 48 hours to relax, connect and reconnect with other women, hear solid Biblical teaching and spend time focusing on the Lord. This weekend will provide a unique opportunity for God to work in your life, and to get to know other women, through worship, bible study, small group discussions, and free time. No matter where you are in your relationship with Jesus, He knows your heart and your needs and ministers to you accordingly.  All women wishing to explore a closer relationship with Jesus Christ are encouraged to attend.

Retreat Service Project  “Days For Girls”

Days for GirlsLearn what you might do in making sustainable (reusable) sanitary items for girls in areas of the world that may be prohibited from going to school on “those days’!  You will see the products, have sewing demonstrations and assemble kits.  You may even sew during
free time.
