“Are You a Hound Dog?” Romans 8:22-27 Sunday August 27, 2017

Call to Worship

L:         Like a mother hen, God wishes to gather all her chicks beneath her wings.

P:         We gather under those wings for shelter and for healing.

L:         Like eaglets, we are nudged from nests to soar aloft.

P:         We are raised up on eagles’ wings and borne up by God’s strength.

U:        From the heights of heaven to the depths of the sea, all creatures lift their voices in praise!

Romans 8:22-27

Our reading comes from the letter to the Romans.

22We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now;
23and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
24For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen?
25But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
26Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.
27And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Here ends our reading. May God bless our understanding.

Week of Compassion FUND –

help for Texas / Hurricane Harvey, and other US places damaged by storms:

100% of donations go to relief

on Saturday

Please continue to keep the people of Texas in your prayers. Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas last night, causing flooding and structural damage in towns along the coast. Winds have weakened since landfall, but catastrophic rainfall of three feet or more will occur over the next few days as Hurricane Harvey meanders around Texas.

A tornado has also been reported south of Houston, damaging approximately 50 homes.

Week of Compassion will continue to monitor the storm and reach out to Disciples communities and our partners. If you are interested in helping, the best immediate response from afar is two-fold: pray and send donations. You can donate at and designate US Storms where 100% of your gifts will go to help communities rebuild after storms such as Hurricane Harvey.
