Scripture (Matthew 10:40-42; Mark 9:33-37)
Our readings come from the good news according to Matthew and Mark.
And Jesus said,
40“Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.
41Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous;
42and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.”
Our second reading continues from Mark’s gospel.
33Then Jesus and the disciples came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?”
34But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest.
35He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.”
36Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them,
37“Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”
Here end our readings. May God bless our understanding.
