Faith Alliance Summer Lunches – Countryside
Volunteers are needed to help children during summer lunches. Lakota food bus will stop in Countryside Village park at the location listed. Volunteers will help with getting the children lined up and ready for the bus, interacting with the children, and making sure grounds are cleaned up after lunch.

To Our Queen City Kitchen Volunteers, In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Month, all of us at Queen City Kitchen want to thank you for the time, dedication, and love that you have put into our two community kitchens and pantry.
Queen City Kitchen has changed drastically since Father Bokenkotter started the organization in 1976. In the past few years alone we have had a few new executive directors, closed the OTR location during the week, changed our pantry to a choice pantry, and have even gotten a new name and logo.
But thanks to our fantastic volunteers our core mission to provide a hot comforting meal to our neighbors in need has remained the same. We are excited to continue to support our guests in an environment of care, compassion, and dignity alongside all of you. Thank you for standing by us and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for all of us at Queen City Kitchen.

The University of Cincinnati (UC) will be part of a $65.9 million grant to Ohio research universities as part of an effort funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to drastically reduce the number of opioid overdose deaths in the next three years.
UC faculty members Jennifer Brown, PhD, associate professor of clinical psychiatry in the addiction sciences division, and Michael Lyons, MD, associate professor of emergency medicine, will lead the statewide effort of intervention implementation across the selected counties.
This project demonstrates UC’s commitment to research, urban health and innovation as outlined in its strategic direction, Next Lives Here. Winhusen, Brown and Lyons are part of the UC / UC Health Opioid Taskforce, an entity that brings together researchers, educators, clinicians and leaders/advocates who are dedicated to having a positive impact on opioid addiction locally, regionally and nationally.

I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you

Our region met at a special called spring regional meeting on May 11; our theme was “Renew, Refresh, Revive” based on the above verse. While there was worship and fellowship, the primary purpose was to receive the Regional Transition Team’s (RTT) report, get feedback, and continue moving forward. What follows are some highlights of those items. This report wasn’t voted on, but will go to the Regional Council with feedback.
Recommendations for Moving Forward: The next 3.5 years be a period of intentional collaboration, experimentation, and risk-taking to build on our strengths and identity and attend to areas of growth to become who God is calling us to be. To rebalance in this time and emphasize evangelism, witness, service, and mission by:
(1) Building on the strength of our relationships with each other; (2) Nurturing relationships outside the region; and
(3) Calling and developing leaders gifted and equipped to lead in new ways.
Finances: The RTT’s efforts are to vision from a perspective of abundance instead of scarcity. (1) Freeze the region’s DMF share at 50% during this time (rather than return to the 60% we previously contributed). This recommendation generated the most feedback, questioning how we honor our covenant-al commitments to the General Church (GC) by changing the agreed percentage. It’s about a $30K difference between 60 and 50%. This isn’t a unilateral recommendation, but one in conversation with the GC. Fifteen OH churches are supporting 50% of the OH region’s budget; many churches need to recommit. (2) Express gratitude for neighboring regions and Regional Ministers (RMs), and close out our arrangements with them Dec. 31, 2019. Feedback encouraged churches to access the RM resources while we have them and insure an OH Search & Call pilot program picks up what the RMs are currently doing, including interim ministry components. (3) Camp Christian Sustainability Plan. Feedback recognized with fewer campers and ongoing cuts that new models of broadening camp’s reach are needed.
Network Support Team:
Three areas emerged—(1) Creating more collaboration and teamwork—within and between congregations, including clergy & laity’s gifts.
(2) Technology—there are many ways to connect across all ages and preferences; perhaps the regional website could host ways to foster connections.
(3) Strengths & assets—if churches map and share those with others, both online and in person, we all benefit. We need to be intentional about building relationships.
External Partnership Team: How can we build on existing DOC-UCC partnerships, local ecumenical relationships, OH Council of Churches, and current relationships with other nonprofits, businesses, etc.? Finding ways to tell our stories that reflect our ministries is key. God reminds us to not be afraid.
Leadership Development Team: We should look to reorganizing DOC districts to better align with UCC associations. Developing our capacity to reach younger people and do effective evangelism across all ages is needed. Knowing the benefits of being in relationship with Christ is key to sharing those with others. There needs to not only be a Commission on Ministry, but Commission on Leadership to foster youth maturing in faith. Nine are willing to serve on this, others are welcomed.
