Interfaith Hospitality Network (ITN)
Volunteers Needed for Board or Operating Communities
Did you know the eleven public school districts in Warren County reported 321 of their students were homeless last year? Would you believe that despite the surging economy this represents an increase of 30% over the previous year and is the fourth consecutive year of increase in the number of homeless children in our county?
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Warren County (IHNWC) was formed 21 years ago to provide shelter, meals, hospitality, and support for homeless families.
We are actively seeking members of our community to join our board or our operating committees as we seek to address this increased need. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with skills and interests in marketing, visual media, social media, facilities planning, event planning, and fundraising.
If you would like to get involved please contact Linda Rabolt, Executive Director, at (513) 934-5250 or email@example.com For more information about IHNWC go to http://www.ihnwc.org

January 18-25, 2020; Eight Days of Prayer for Christian Unity
Volume XLI Number – 1 January 15, 2020
After we had reached safety, we then learned that the island was called Malta. The natives showed us unusual kindness. Since it had begun to rain and was cold, they kindled a fire and welcomed all of us around it. Acts 28:1-2
This year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is from January 18-25. This international observance began in 1908 among Franciscan friars in the Roman Catholic Church; Protestant leaders in the 1920s proposed a similar 8-day observance leading up to Pentecost. In the mid- 1930s the Catholic Church opened this observance so that non-Catholics might join in. In 1941 the precursor to the World Council of Churches aligned their date with the Catholic Church. In 1958 the World Council of Churches including Orthodox, Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed, United, Independent, and Disciples of Christ began cooperatively preparing materials and in 1968 were joined by the Roman Catholic Church in creating materials for the global Church.
This year’s theme is “They showed us unusual kindness” from the passage above, and the materials were prepared by Christians in Malta. Since the Apostle Paul’s shipwreck and sharing of the Gospel with Maltese natives, Christians have been present here and the sister island of Gozo. Malta has been ruled by different powers over its long history: Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Swabians, Aragonese, Knights of the Order of St. John, the French & the British. In 1964 it became an independent nation and in 2004 joined the European Union.
Although most of the 430,000 inhabitants are Roman Catholic, there are significant numbers of other Christians. Ecumenism isn’t new to Malta given that it’s at the crossroads of civilizations, religions, trade, and migration. Maltese natives have always been remarkably hospitable. The British presence led to the establishment in the mid- 1800s of the Church of Scotland, Anglican, and Methodist churches. The Greek Orthodox Church was established in the early 1800s, and since the 1990s there has been an exponential growth in other Orthodox churches, whose members are seeking work while others are fleeing persecution in their former homelands. Serbian, Russian, Romanian, and Bulgarian are the former, while Oriental Orthodox from Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Iraq, and Syria are the latter. The ecumenical climate in Malta is one offering “unusual kindness” and an example for the universal Church.
I invite you to join with me for each of the 8 days in the materials you’ll find here on pages 20 to 27. Each day has
Scripture, reflection, and a prayer based on passages from Acts 27:18-28:10. This passage is familiar to us given our mural of that shipwreck. Day 1 is Reconciliation—throwing the cargo overboard. Day 2 is Enlightenment—seeking & showing forth Christ’s light. Day 3 is Hope—Paul’s message. Day 4 is Trust—do not be afraid, believe. Day 5 is Strength—breaking bread for the journey. Day 6 is Hospitality—show unusual kindness. Day 7 is Conversion—changing our hearts & minds. Day 8 is Generosity—receiving & giving. You’ll find those materials and more here:

Welcome Our New Regional Program Director Rev. Alan Dicken
Here’s a brief message from Rev. Dicken: Hello Ohio! As we enter into a new year and a new season for the Christian Church in Ohio, I am thrilled to be partnering with you all in service to the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout our state. For many of us, this is a time when we are still figuring out how to come together as a regional church that can build healthy relationships to equip us for meaningful ministry. I see this as an opportunity for supporting the good and faithful work being done in Ohio, while collectively discerning God’s creative vision for how we are called to move forward together in new and joyful ways. I am energized by this opportunity to serve God alongside all of you as together we strive to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. Thank you all!
Alan says his job includes coordinating Regional teams, being the point person at Camp Christian, and rebuilding relationships among Ohio congregations.
CCC welcomed Mission Co-Worker Dec 29!
We were greatly blessed to welcome Global Ministries’ Mission Co-Worker Michelle McKay to be our guest speaker. Her message of “Hearing Haiti” invited us to listen in on the stories of various people with whom she serves in Port au Prince and elsewhere. We learned about Haitian history, the resilience and brilliance of people there, the joyful expressions of worshiping Christ in the midst of extraordinary daily challenges, the necessity of wise charity for sustainable benefits to communities there, and many other insights.
You can hear her message at Read here…
“God Moments” shared Dec. 29, Jan. 12
Tom R. and Chuck W. each shared a moment when God’s power and presence were known to them. Tom’s moment was on a highway, while Chuck was in the aftermath of a tragedy. God is acting continuously in each and all of our lives, and by sharing these stories not only is God glorified, but hearers encouraged and the church edified.
You’re invited to share a 3-5 minute moment where God has acted or a current moment where God is acting in your life. See Grow chair Deborah T. or Pastor Troy with questions.
Tom’s video is now online (Chucks’ testimony will be added soon) Watch here…
