“The Call of Christ” – The LaFwa Mission Trip

The title is “The Call of Christ.” Camryn, Jamie, & Lora B., Laura D., Sally E., Sarah F., Deborah Th., and Dave Ti. will be answering the following questions:

(1) What prompted you to heed the call of Christ to “follow Christ” to the DR?  Why did you say yes or agree to go on this mission trip?

(2) How did you prepare your heart, mind, and spirit to go on this journey?

(3) What did you experience while you were there?

(4) What did you/have you learned from this experience?

(5) How were you transformed and changed from this trip and how are you continuing to be impacted by the mission trip?  How is your life different because you participated in this mission trip?

(6) What do you want to the congregation to know about saying yes to the call to follow Christ in their lives because you said Yes to Jesus to go on this trip?

You CAN make a DIFFERENCE: Want to Give? https://lafwa.churchcenter.com/giving

Thanks to Dave D. for working extra time to load these videos to Youtube!!! There was some technical difficulty at the beginning start about the 3:10 mark in the first video.

Call to Worship

L:         We are strangers and foreigners upon this earth, seeking a homeland.

P:         We are sailors and mariners upon the sea, seeking a distant shore.

L:         There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God.

P:         God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved.

L:         For indeed we desire a better country, a heavenly one.

P:         We look forward to the city prepared for us, whose architect and builder is God!

Scripture (Acts 27:1-2, 14, 20-24, 33-37)

Our reading comes from the Acts of the Apostles. We will read this together, meditating upon the words and images. Let us together speak, listen, and ponder God’s word.

1When it was decided that we were to sail for Italy, they transferred Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan Cohort, named Julius.

2Embarking on a ship of Adramyttium that was about to set sail to the ports along the coast of Asia, we put to sea, accompanied by Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica.

14But soon a violent wind, called the northeaster, rushed down from Crete.

20When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest raged, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.

21Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul then stood up among them and said, “Men, you should have listened to me and not have set sail from Crete and thereby avoided this damage and loss.

22I urge you now to keep up your courage, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.

23For last night there stood by me an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I worship,

24and he said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before the emperor; and indeed, God has granted safety to all those who are sailing with you.’

33Just before daybreak, Paul urged all of them to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you have been in suspense and remaining without food, having eaten nothing.

34Therefore I urge you to take some food, for it will help you survive; for none of you will lose a hair from your heads.”

35After he had said this, he took bread; and giving thanks to God in the presence of all, he broke it and began to eat.

36Then all of them were encouraged and took food for themselves. 37(We were in all two hundred seventy-six persons in the ship.)

Here ends our reading. May God bless our understanding.
