Compass Christian Church was formed in 1989 with six families, our founding pastor Rev. George Reese, and a vision to reach the unchurched in the West Chester/Mason area.
Nine years later, on Easter of 1998, we held our first worship service in our newly built church building on Tylersville Road. As a nod to our location, our church was originally called Tylersville Road Christian Church.
Under our second pastor, Rev. Dr. Troy Sybrant, we made the thoughtful and prayerful decision to change our name to Compass Christian Church in 2016. This name reflected our dedication to finding our way together, led by God’s direction.
In 2021, after participating in discussion groups, book studies and intentional prayer, Compass Christian Church became an Open & Affirming congregation. This was not a change from who we were, but a confirmation and declaration that we are a welcoming church to ALL and that ALL are made in God’s image and have a place at the Lord’s table and in church leadership.
From our beginning, we have been committed to our mission to serve the community and spread God’s love. Some of our favorite ways to connect with our community have included Live Nativity, VBS and Friends & Family nights, mission trips, serving at Over-the-Rhine and West Chester soup kitchens, collecting items for students and refugees in our communities, and multiple projects through Faith Alliance, including X Days service projects and summer lunch programs.
